Festivals provide an atmosphere where thousands of individuals can come together and hear live performances, make new friends, and experience happiness through the collective energy of hundreds- sometimes thousands- of people who all share one common interest: music.
We’ve all heard of the popular music festivals like Electric Forest, Coachella, and Lollapalooza- but what about something new? Enter Okeechobee, the youngest and most enticing festival on our radar. The Florida-based music and arts festival made its grand debut to the scene on March 2, 2016. This 3-4 day, beach festival caught our attention this year after the 2017 lineup release. From big names like Bassnectar, Young the Giant, and Griz- all the way down to some smaller artists like Joywave and Mac Demarco- Okeechobee’s lineup is definitely worth a glance.
Taking place on March 2-5, Okeechobee is starting up right around the time college and high school students are beginning their spring breaks, making it the perfect option for an alternative vacation. Who’s to say festivals are only for the summer anyways, It’s about time we get some festivals to fill the rest of the year, am I right fellow music lovers? So, prepare your totems, iron your harem pants, and call up your festy fam cause there’s a new festival in the game.
However, any festival-goer knows that a good lineup and solid time-frame aren't the only important details to take into consideration when deciding between festivals. Much like Electric Forest, Okeechobee is completely lit up at night with more than enough art and decoration to satisfy your soul. Music and art aren't the only entertainment options either. From workshops and yoga, to guest speakers and beach games, this festival has it all. While Florida isn’t exactly the closest destination for a music festival to most, general admission tickets are more reasonable than most camping festivals at $249 for early entry passes.
Okeechobee offers a variety of ticket options ranging from standard general admission tickets, to VIP and RV. There’s even an 8 person tour bus option! They didn’t stop there though. Similar to most festivals, music lovers have a chance to volunteer in numerous ways. Volunteers offer their time and energy to help make the festival a safe, enjoyable experience and in return, are guaranteed free admission as well as free time to enjoy the festival.
Between the lineup, the environment, and the price, Okeechobee is standing at the top of our list for must-see music festivals as we enter 2017.
