Houston rapper, singer, songwriter and producer - the man does it all, but this March Travis Scott adds another title to his list of occupations: record label owner.
In an interview published this past Monday with Numéro Homme, the international contemporary men’s lifestyle magazine, Scott revealed he had a project in the works. When asked about his record label, which Scott titled Cactus Jack Records, the rapper said: “I’m not doing it to have financial control over my music. I want first and foremost to help other artists, launch new names, to provide opportunities. I want to do for them what happened to me, but better. By better I mean no bullshit. No lying to the artists about album release dates or the budgets of videos and albums”.
Travis is still currently signed with Epic Records, owned by Sony, who has had artists such as Pearl Jam, Shakira, Boston, Celine Dion and Michael Jackson under their label. If he doesn't make Cactus Jack an imprint under the label, he may try to part ways with Epic and start fresh. However, It’s likely he will stay with Epic, given that even when signing with the producing side of Kanye’s Record Label, GOOD Music, he remained with Epic.
The Grammy nominated artist is currently in the midst of kicking off his 2017 tour, Birds Eye View, which premieres March 10th in New Orleans. He’ll be on the road until mid June when his tour will go overseas, ending on July 9th in Finland.
