Music Boxes. Record Players. Headphones. Speakers. Listening to music has evolved from hearing a band live to having a library of every song you have ever heard in the palm of your hand; but who's to say it should stop there? Mag-Lev Audio, a company who has been searching for an innovative and improved way to listen to music, recently did exactly that with the world’s first levitating turntable.
Using magnetic levitation and sensory regulation software, the objective is to produce the soothing sounds from the record of your choice, while visually enhancing the experience and bringing the feeling of zero gravity into the room. The subtle orange lighting underneath the levitating platter is the icing on the cake for the most innovating way to listen to music yet.
The Mag-Lev Audio comes with a very precise needle and a pre-fitted cartridge and tonearm to make the listening experience extremely easy. The 45-rpm adapter also makes all types of records compatible, making it as simple as the push of a button to choose between 33.3 to 45 rpm.
Mag-Lev Audio recently launched a kickstarter with a goal of $300,000. All of this has already been backed, which means the project is now underway. If their new goal of $400,000 is reached, a white model will be created as well. Those who pledge will receive a levitating turn table at a discounted price. Release is expected to be in the late fall of 2017, retail ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on the model.
